Scenic Hill Candidate Forum is Booked!
Written by Dave Huseby

Because of the success of the first candidate forum in the fall of 2009, the Scenic Hill Neighborhood Council has decided to continue the tradition.  So I'm pleased to announce that we have booked the Kent Senior Center for a second candidate forum:

Scenic Hill Neighborhood Candidate Forum
Thursday, October 13th, 2011
Kent Senior Center
5:30pm - 9:00pm

The City of Kent has seven city council positions and a mayor that are all elected to four year terms.  The election cycles are organized in a staggered manner where the mayor and three seats are elected together and then two years later, the remaining four council seats are elected.  The first candidate forum was held in 2009 when the mayor and three council seats were up for re-election.  This year, the other four seats--currently held by Debbie Raplee, Les Thomas, Deborah Ranniger, and Ron Harmon--come up for re-election.  The candidate forum is a great chance to come and meet the candidates and ask some tough questions.

The filing deadline for candidates this year is Friday, June 10th so we will not have a full list of candidates until then.  We are also planning some changes to the candidate forum format to allow for more audience participation and to maximize our time with the candidates.  So mark your calendars and plan on coming out and making this candidate forum as great, or better than, the last one.

Newsflash

Per request, I just added a new gardening specific forum to the site.  So all of you with a green thumb, you can use it for all things gardening (e.g. plant swaps, tips, etc).
